In 2019, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Mexicanos Contra la Corrupción y la Impunidad (MCCI) by creating illustrations and animations for a special report on the Public Defender’s Office in Mexico. The project aimed to clearly and accessibly explain the importance of having well-trained public defenders, while also highlighting the structural failures that affect those who cannot afford private legal representation. Through my drawings, I sought to bring empathy and closeness to a complex subject, helping the audience connect with the real stories behind the statistics and legal processes.
The illustrations became part of a visual narrative that accompanied the journalistic investigation, and the animations gave movement to the data and testimonies, creating a more dynamic and educational experience for viewers. My goal was to emphasize that behind every case file there are people whose lives can change dramatically depending on the quality of the defense they receive. This project allowed me to use art as a tool for denouncing injustice and raising awareness, adding images that not only accompany the text but also amplify it and help it reach a wider audience.
