Cartoon: Mexico Feminicida

In 2020, after reading several heartbreaking reports about the femicides in Mexico—where four women are murdered every day simply for being women—I felt an urgent need to speak out. That’s when I created México Feminicida, a cartoon I published without ever imagining the impact it would have. The image went viral internationally and even reached the soccer field: goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota, after scoring a goal, took off his team jersey to reveal a shirt with my illustration underneath. Authorities attempted to fine him, and the gesture sparked a major media stir. Mexican comedian Sofía Niño de Rivera also wore a T-shirt featuring the cartoon during one of her shows, helping to amplify its message even further. Shortly after, during the March 8th women’s protest, the illustration appeared on posters, walls, and shirts—becoming a powerful symbol of protest and remembrance.
