    About This Project

In January 2024, the artwork “Elections under Dictatorship” was donated to the OAS Museum of the Americas in Washington, D.C. The piece is inspired by the electoral fraud that took place in Venezuela in 2024, and it offers a symbolic and striking representation of how democracy can become a prison under authoritarian rule. The artwork depicts a ballot box transformed into a cage, with people imprisoned inside — a metaphor for a population trapped within a system that appears free, but ultimately represses.

The donation ceremony was attended by Gerardo de Icaza, Director of the Department of Electoral Cooperation and Observation at the OAS, and Francisco Guerrero, Secretary for Strengthening Democracy at the OAS. Their presence reinforced the organization’s commitment to democratic values in the region, and emphasized the power of art as a vehicle for denunciation, memory, and critical reflection.
