Participative exhibition in Papalote children's Museum: Small Wings Big Impact

Small Wings, Big Impact is a participatory art experience at Papalote Museo del Niño, inaugurated on November 18, 2025. The installation invites reflection on human migration and kindness through an empathetic and inclusive lens. Inspired by the migration of the monarch butterfly—a symbol of transformation and collaboration—the project is part of an international initiative led by UN Human Rights, developed hand in hand with Christina MacGillivray as part of the #StandUp4Migrants campaign. The exhibition is open through February 1, 2026, offering a space for encounter, reflection, and creation for children, families, and the general public.

At the heart of the project are the butterflies created by children and their families, each carrying a message or reflection about migration and kindness. More than a thousand Mexican and migrant children have participated in workshops before and throughout the exhibition, sharing stories and everyday gestures of care. Together, these butterflies form a collective sanctuary built through participation, transforming the museum space into a living environment that continues to change and grow.

The exhibition design was developed by Claudia Contla, shaping a sensitive and accessible journey that supports the visitor experience. Open workshops take place every weekend, adding more butterflies to the installation and allowing the sanctuary to keep growing and evolving. In this way, Small Wings, Big Impact is not a static artwork, but a project in motion—one that expands through the gestures and voices of everyone who takes part.
