We held a special workshop that is part of a project I’m working on with Christina MacGillivray, Claudia Contlis, and the UN. This initiative, Little Wings, Big Impact, in collaboration with the UN, Sin Fronteras, Telokwento, Comex, and Casa Refugiados, is filled with the voices of migrant children who actively participated in the workshop. The workshop was held as part of Children’s Day, organized by Sin Fronteras in April 2025. Listening to these stories firsthand has always been a vital part of my creative process. Through their heartfelt and hopeful letters, the children shared their experiences and dreams. We then transformed those letters into monarch butterflies — a deeply poetic symbol of migration and unity.
These butterflies will be part of an exhibition at the Papalote Children’s Museum in Mexico City in 2025, where their messages will come to life in a visual, emotional, and powerful way. This project aims to immortalize their voices and remind us of the importance of empathy and kindness in the context of human migration. Through art and collaboration, we hope to shift the narrative around migration, honoring the resilience and dreams of those who cross borders in search of a better future.
